15. Hello, My computer instal the last beta version. Then runs step from 1 to 7 without problemas, but in step 8, It download dropbox files, but when installing, Dropbox_3.16.1.0.zip, the following message appears and the instalation stops: “could not remove old dropbox files”.

    What can i do?

    • Follow the steps for entry #4 from the FAQ.

I fired up Dropbox Portable a few minutes ago, clicked on tray icon, and there was a blue tab at the top saying that my version of DB was out-of-date and had to be upgraded to DB version 5.4.24 within 24 hrs or I would be unable to connect to my Dropbox account. Guess I’ll have to wait and see what tomorrow brings.

21. Dropbox wants their client to be updated. A warning popped up saying that I currently have 22 days to update Dropbox client before it can’t connect.

22. Same here: ‘Using old version of Dropbox. Upgrade within 21 days (to version 5.4.24) if you want to keep using Dropbox’.

    also thanks for all the hard work you put in this app mate. i am a student and a part time worker. i cant explain how much convenience your software has given me as i can now carry all study notes with me on a usb stick, i can plug it in on work computers when i have free time and start utilizing the downtime. everything syncs as i make changes to my notes /assignments and can pick off where i left, on the phone while i am on train, on the laptop as i get home.. its a fantastic piece of software.

27. Ich wollte die Software testen leider funktioniert sie nicht. Wird es ein Update geben? Wann wäre das in etwa, damit ich mir eine Wiedervorlage im Kalender eintragen kann. Würde doch gern die Software mal ausprobieren.

    DropboxAHK does not work anymore. Could you keep us up to date about the developing progress for the update?

    For me it is a problem to have a broken sync every 4 to 6 months. I know that you are developing this great peace of software in your spare freetime (many thank). But is keeps a problem for a productive use. I have no solution, but wanted to point it out. Maybe someone else has an idea.

    • Thx Cyberstorm. These are not good news – but good to know! The only solution now is to install a non portable version.

      I personally have reconsider my approach in using dropbox portable. It is just a big drawback to have a lack of productivity each half year. I may switch back to the installed version and use the portable one just in special cases.

      Anyways: Thank you Nick. You provide a free portable version of dropbox and I really appreciate your work!

    • Unfortunately I can’t use the standard version, it’s a pity that I can’t use Dropbox now.

I downloaded the latest version of portable dropbox when it came out and it was working, but now it’s asking for updates again and every time I try to update it it just update the dropbox on my laptop, it takes me to the original dropbox site not the portable dropbox. Is there any new version coming out soon ? or what can I do to fix this ? I really need it to work and sync between my flash drive and the laptop.Now it doesn’t sync because I keep getting that update notification every time.
    Help would be appreciated.

37. I figured out a new way to kind of operate dropbox, I have the dropbox folder on my USB drive but since the dropbox software is not working now because of the update issue. I would manually use a backup software and back up that folder to my dropbox folder on my laptop this way I have all my data saved and uploaded on dropbox. It’s one way you can do it until dropbox start working again.
    I figured I can share this method with all of you in case you need to get our stuff on your USB uploaded.
    It’s an easier way to do it than drag your stuff one by one.
