Hallo zusammen. Es ist schon einige Zeit her seit ich das letzte Mal einen Blogpost geschrieben oder in der User Group geposted habe. Seitdem bin ich umgezogen und hatte dadurch eine etwas stressige Zeit. Währenddessen hat Dropbox ihre Software aktualisiert, was dazu führte, dass DropboxPortableAHK nicht mehr funktionierte. Es tut mir leid, dass ich es nicht rechtzeitig geschafft habe, eine neue Version zu veröffentlichen und auch nicht über die Webseite oder E-Mail zu erreichen war, da ich meinen Entwicklungsrechner nicht dabei hatte.

Dank der großartigen Arbeit einiger Community Mitgliedern wurden in der User Group Anleitungen geschrieben, die es erlaubt haben, DropboxPortableAHK weiter zu nutzen. Vielen Dank insbesondere an Henk van den Akker, Xavier Geoffret, Alfonso Arciniega und Juraj Frankovský, die die Anleitungen verfasst haben und den Nutzern Schritt für Schritt zur Seite standen.

Mittlerweile habe ich die neueste Version von Dropbox (v48.4.58) veröffentlicht. In Zukunft werde ich versuchen, Updates schneller bereitzustellen und werde diese vielleicht komplett automatisiert verteilen. Außerdem werde ich die E-Mail Konten, die zur Webseite gehören, auf meinem Telefon einrichten, um wenigstens darüber erreichbar zu sein.

In Zeiten, in denen alles funktioniert, ist es meist recht ruhig um DropboxPortableAHK. Dann frage ich mich oft, ob es überhaupt noch Nutzer gibt. Wenn es allerdings kaputt geht, dann bekomme ich auf einmal einen Haufen E-Mails und die User Group wird auch aktiv. Dann sehe ich, dass es immer noch viele Nutzer gibt und erkenne auch Namen, die schon seit Jahren dabei sind.
Leider hat Google ohne Angabe eines Grundes meinen AdSense Account deaktiviert, wodurch ich keine Werbeeinnahmen mehr erziele. Bitte erwäge eine Spende, falls du DropboxPortableAHK regelmäßig benutzt. Bitte hinterlasse mir auch einen Kommentar entweder hier oder in der User Group, oder schreibe mir eine E-Mail, wenn dir DropboxPortableAHK im Alltag hilft. Es ist immer schön zu sehen, wenn die eigene Software anderen behilflich ist.

EDIT: Die neueste Version von DropboxPortableAHK ist weiterhin v1.6.8.15 und kann hier heruntergeladen werden: DropboxPortableAHK v1.6.8.15. Wenn du diese Version bereits besitzt, musst du sie nicht erneut herunterladen. Es genügt, DropboxPortableAHK.exe zu starten, die neueste Dropboxversion wird dann automatisch heruntergeladen.

    glad you be back an fixed the Problem. I use the portable app. every day. So could you pleas tell me wer i could donwload the newest Version? i can´t find it on your HP or in the goolge user Group. Thank´s a lott

  10. Thanks, was using this years ago, have installed again. I hate droboxes many services and fluff. Worst of all its a PITA to stop from starting on boot. Your alternative is great.

    It seems que Dropbox portable is dead! The dropbox is allways updating the program, making incompatibilities. After this, i sugest:

    The site and aplication is similar to Dropbox and it is portable by coping the instalation folder.

    The registration thru the invitation gives 5Gb of cloud storage.

  14. Hey Nick
    During wizard it stated, that dropbox needs to be downloaded. After downloading the login screen appears. After login a message showed up, that I use an old version of dropbox (v50.x.x.). So I copied manually the newer client to x:\DropboxAHK\.dbfiles\bin\Dropbox\Client and it worked. Maybe something to fix.

Hallo Nic, es tut mir leid, aber … “Damit Ihre Dateien weiterhin synchronisiert werden, müssen Sie sich bei Ihrem Dropbox-Konto anmelden und Ihre Dropbox in ein unterstütztes Dateisystem verschieben” … da ich das alles nicht so recht durchblicke, komme ich leider nicht weiter und schiebe grad bisserl Panik, da du heute ja geschrieben hast, dass du das update bereits geschickt hast… es hat auch was runtergeladen auf den stick, aber wenn ich da die dropbox anklicke, dann kommen die Dateien meines PCs und nicht die, die auf dem USB-Stick drauf sind (…glaube ich…)… vielleicht kannst du mir ja helfen!? Danke und schönen Abend!

    • Dein USB-Stick ist vermutlich als FAT32 o.ä. formatiert. Dropbox unterstützt seit neuestem leider nur noch das NTFS Dateisystem. Du musst daher deine Dateien vom USB Stick herunter kopieren, dann den USB mit NTFS neu formatieren (Achtung: das löscht alle Daten auf dem Stick) und danach die Daten wieder auf den Stick kopieren.
      Wenn du dann DropboxPortableAHK neu auf dem Stick einrichtest, sollte alles funktionieren.

  19. I am using Dropbox Portable! 🙂

    But I am sad that every once in a while Dropbox team would break something (they would usually call this “we added a new shiny feature” — that no one actually cared about) and then the portable version would break as well … and I need to wait for an update and so on…

    I enjoyed using Dropbox in the future much more than I am today. It was lightweight, less bloat, more simple and efficient features. I could also use two Dropbox clients side by side (with the help of your super-useful software!).

    Today things are more complex and less enjoyable. Still, I do try from time to time to keep my Dropbox and Dropbox Portable updated, and to sync a few files.

    I have also made a donation once and I’ll probably make one again — your efforts should be appreciated! 🙂

    At the end — frankly my impression is that lately, big companies want to create software that controls us! They don’t want to see the opposite — software that *we* could control (customize, adapt, make work better for us, etc.) — I guess this is why Dropbox is becoming more and more restrictive lately!

    And not only Dropbox — take a look at Microsoft Skype as an example — with each new update feature were less and less, restrictions were more and more. Skype broke support for various operating systems and older clients. Then size of files that could be transferred between Skype clients was greatly reduced. Then the interface became simpler and uglier as well. And in the latest update, you even cannot customize your Skype sounds — which Microsoft call (you guessed it), “A new great feature”!

    And it’s not only Dropbox and Skype — it’s happening with virtually all software that we are using daily… We have less and less choice and big companies enforce more and more control…
